Our Point Of Sale materials are in contact with consumers every day, but they are not used or taken home by shoppers. Our products are in a controlled environment, mostly in shops, but also in other areas like exhibitions and travel waiting areas etc
A controlled environment better allows opportunities for either the retailers, brands or shopper marketing and POSM companies to contribute to a circular economic model, especially in the recycling process. Not only could they innovate in the area of bio plastic closed loop recycling, they have the chance to actually lead the world in bio plastic recycling.
We view Point of Sale item projects through the low carbon/plastic lens.
Once we have helped a client in the design and production of the item, we need to be able to identify it through the value chain. We use a simple QR code, this was invented by Denso Wave decades ago, to track Japanese car parts around the world. Since that time QR codes have come a long way, now every iphone camera can automatically recognised them and link to the data source, which is embedded in the QR code.
You need to innovate
When our items are manufactured we can progress the order tracking through production. When the order is shipped to client delivery hubs, it can be scanned to confirm delivery, it also records our carbon emissions cycle of delivery to customer’s gate. When it is put into stores, it can be scanned by field sales installers, store workers or managers to confirm that it conforms to campaign timings etc. When they are removed from the controlled environment, they can be scanned out and returned to us. This is where you can really innovate, if you can get it into stores you can get it out, it is not rocket science, but it will need commitment and eco collaboration, we are ready to play our part.
Currently we can then scan every item we get back to confirm that they have been recycled. We can de ink printed items, wash and re grind and remake items from our materials or indeed get them composted.
Together we will gather data on the efficiency of the recycling process and also end of life recording for our carbon emissions gathering data. Any items that are not returned can be scanned wherever the end up. The person holding them, can report instantly where they were found. This will help us identify leakage in the recycling system, as we want to know where our materials end up if not recycled with us.
